GL70 Season Wrap Up

Evolution wins GL70 Season Championship

Terry Kohler's Evolution posted very consistent results all season long to win the GL70 Season Championship.  Evolution was challenged all year by Peter Thornton's Holua which finished second and Mirage which finished 3rd.

Congratulations to all the GL70 skippers and crew on a well sailed season!

GL70 Verve Cup

Evolution Wins Verve Cup

Chicago provided great weather and a great venue for the final series of buoy racing for the GL70 Season.  Terry Kohler's Evolution finished the season as they started it in Chicago with a very impressive string of races to win the Verve Cup and lock up the GL70 series championship.  Evolution was closely followed by Peter Thornton's Holua in second and Bert D'Ottavio's Thirsty Tiger in third.

Windancer wins Clipper Cup  Colt 45 3rd in Trans-Superior

In non-fleet racing news, John Nedeau's Windancer won the Clipper Cup race from Muskegon to Port Washington and Alan Fletcher's Colt 45 took 3rd place in the Trans-Superior race.

GL70 Bay Harbor Regatta

Mirage wins GL70s Bay Harbor Regatta

After the Mackinacs, the GL70s headed to Bay Harbor for the annual GL70 regatta.  Two days of ideal conditions made for some great around the buoys racing.  Mirage took the series closely followed by Nitemare and Evolution.

GL70 Bayview Mackinac Results

Colt 45 leads GL70s in Bayview Mackinac

Eleven GL70s hit the starting line for the 2005 Bayview Mackinac race.  Allan Fletcher's Colt 45 was first to finish for the class followed closely by Terry Kohler's Evolution.  Colt 45 was also first on IRC corrected time.  IMS results for the race were Colt 45, followed by Evolution and Holua.  The series championship table above shows the complete results.

GL70 Chicago Mackinac Results

Holua first to finish in 2005 Chicago Mackinac

Eleven GL70s competed in the 2005 Chicago Mackinac Race.  Peter Thornton's Holua was first to finish in the race followed closely by John Nedeau's Windancer (3rd to finish) and Terry Kohler's Evolution (4th to finish).  Alan Fletcher's Colt 45 won the class on Americap corrected time. 

IMS scoring for official class results is now available.  Peter Thornton's Holua led the class followed by Mirage and Windancer.

GL70 Queens Cup Results

Great Lakes 70s Race in the South Shore Yacht Club Queens Cup

Three GL70s raced in the SSYC 2005 Queens Cup, qualifying this as the first leg in GL70 Offshore Series.  Nitemare led the fleet with a first to finish followed closely by Windancer and Pororoca completing the GL70 representation.

GL70 Chicago NOOD Results

Great Lakes 70s Race in the Chicago NOOD Regatta

The first regatta of the Great Lakes 70s 2005 series is the Chicago NOOD Regatta. Terry Kohler's Evolution turned in a commanding performance to take the regatta.  Chicago Yacht Club did an excellent job getting off 8 races in 3 days.  High winds on Friday made for intense sailing with more moderate winds on Saturday and Sunday.  In all, 3 great days of racing.   Here are the results from the regatta.

GL70 Boat Ownership Changes

Great Lakes 70s Boat Ownership Changes

The Great Lakes 70s fleet membership is making changes.  Current fleet member Windancer VI has been sold to Gene McCarthy and Robert I. Zeman, Jr.  Gene and Robert will be racing the boat in the GL70 fleet under the name Pororoco.  Welcome to the fleet!

In a related move, John Nedeau has acquired the Santa Cruz 70 Cynosure.  Cynosure will now be raced as Windancer continuing the tradition of Windancer participation in the class.

GL70 Series 2005 Schedule

Great Lakes 70s Schedule for 2005 Released

The Great Lakes 70s schedule for 2005 includes premiere sailing events on the Great Lakes.  In 2005, the fleet is returning to the Chicago NOOD and Verve Cup regattas.  Be sure to come back to this page to get GL70s racing results and schedule updates.
